About This Product

Biotin supports health by playing a pivotal role in supporting metabolic function as a co-enzyme that helps break down food, including carbohydrates, fats and protein.  Your resting metabolic rate is elevated and food breaks down faster when consuming biotin, which is why there’s a link to biotin and accelerating weight loss.

Although there isnt enough evidence that taking Biotin assists in hair and nail quality in normal levels, evidence does support taking biotin in states of deficiency, to prevent hair and nail dysfunction.  Similarly, the vitamin may also help thicken nail cuticles and prevents breakage.

A biotin deficiency can also lead to a variety of skin problems including rashes, acne, psoriasis, dermatitis and overall itchiness, which suggests why depleting biotin levels can in turn play a significant role in skin health.

Biotin has shown to play a role in lowering cholesterol in animal studies. Preliminary research has shown biotin can help reduce LDL (bad cholesterol) levels, which when too high, can lead to heart disease and stroke.

Biotin can be found in a number of foods, including egg yolk, organ meats (liver, kidney), nuts, legumes, whole grains and cereals to name a few.  Food-processing techniques like cooking reduce inactivate biotin when compared to raw or less-processed versions of these foods.

Biotin can also play a key role in the function of the nervous system and do affect hormone function.

Anyone can take biotin as it is treated as a supplement and not a drug. Biotin is also safe for pregnant women, but it’s always best to check with your doctor to determine what dosage is right for you. It can be found in a multivitamin, B complex or in pure tablet form and is readily available over the counter.

Biotin supplements can also interfere with the results of medical testing, so stop taking them at least a week before having medical tests.

As such, it is best to consult your doctor, primary care provider, or physician before taking this supplement.

Pairing biotin with chromium has been show to lower glucose levels when combined with chromium picolinate/biotin ontrol in overweight to obese individuals with type 2 diabetes; especially those patients with poor glycaemic control on oral therapy.”  According to a study from 2005: “Biotin deficiency has been linked to impaired glucose tolerance and decreased utilization of glucose.”
